[I will get in the swing of this again. I promise, but I'm still a little awkward because this blog is public and this blog is seen by more than just my co-workers, classmates, and The Philosopher Musician. I will find things to post though, if you have not seen them all ready.]
The work blog is back up and running (Visit West Chester Public Library's Blog! We had a blog before it was cool). We had a little issue with a Google Spam Bot who decided we were spam. It seems that Google - wait, I mean BLOGGER - has determined we are, indeed not spam. We post almost every day now and it's always fun and different. Check out our Gecko. Apparently he's shedding. :-)
This weekend, I've been trying to "slog" through the reading. I'm going to be honest here, but Chapter 1 of Discovering Computers 2010, is only for those who have NEVER touched a computer before. The Philosopher Musician (more oh who he is later) wanted to read over my shoulder because it was just painful to read. Why? Well, mainly this first chapter was an introduction to your PC and seeing as I basically grew up using a computer, I knew most of this stuff. The first half of the chapter I decided to replace the word computer for "brains" or "Cybermen" which made reading the chapter more fun, especially out loud. Chapter 2 is infinitely more interesting as I've always wanted to know the evolution of the Interwebs and Chpater 3...well, I haven't gotten there yet.
I haven't finished all of Week 1's readings and I'm a bit stressed over this. I've finally caught up with videos and such, but I'm still not done. I've determined I just have to slog through and give up on any decent sleep all week. I have a very hecktic week, yet again, this week which involves a lot of traveling over to where The Philosopher Musician is at for a workshop in his library [that he and his family uses] and then to High School for 4 lunch periods to promote the library and just generally "catch-up" and prep for summer reading.
Who is The Philosopher Musician? He has a degree in philosophy and music, hence the name. He is basically my equal partner. I'm pretty sure we're getting married sometime in the future (no date yet). He will be mentioned often as he's sort of decided he wants to look over my shoulder and discuss some of these concepts.
Yesterday, The Philosopher Musician and I stopped for dinner on our way from his college to his family home. During dinner Web 2.0 came up. It was interesting how he pointed out that Web 2.0, to him, is just jargon. I think he was getting at how the Net is still the Net. I tried to point out that Web 2.0 is an interacitve web. At one point I knew what Web 3.0 was going to be, but I couldn't put it into words last night. More or less, from the reading, I got that Web 3.0 is going to be "The web knows you," but I'm not sure this is the case.
Our conversation lead into Library 2.0 which, if anything, is more of a concept than "This is the Library, version 2.0." I pointed out in our discussion that libraries are not "version 2.0." They've been around for 5,000 years (as was stated in the lecture) so there is no version. But what exactly is Library 2.0. I still don't completely understand the concept, but hopefully I'll know more later.
That reminds me, I have a 23 Things Post I need to drag out concerning Web 2.0 and library use. I'll drag it out after I've dealt with the HTML errors in it. I originally hid all of these posts so I didn't overwhelm anyone who was like "AH! Where did HER posts come from." I'm into recycling and I hate creating blogs that serve one time purposes, so I resurrected this one and will return posts as needed. :-)
