FireFox Add Ons

I run an old computer. I hope to purchase a new one soon but that is very, very unlikely. Otherwise, I'm waiting for a used laptop to be repaired that will do that job.

Anyway, yesterday, The Philosopher Musician was able to pay me a visit and I was grumbling about my computer. Once again, it is going VERY slow and he had me run task manager. Surprisingly, it was nothing malicious eating all that ram/memory/what-have-you.

So, I ran Firefox because he mentioned how all the add-ons he had on Firefox (and he has LOTS) were eating a lot of memory. Firefox ran. At first it was only 60,000 K of memory. Ok, but that put it in the top three processes. Later it was 150,000 K which is a LOT for my poor computer. I'm up to about five add-ons on FireFox. Two are for the class (and I haven't really touched since) and the rest are what I felt like adding. (Delicious was so much easier with the Firefox add-on and TwitterFox rocks).

Oh well, this is mainly an observation and just something I thought I'd point out because it is interesting how people like to just add stuff to their computer and they don't think of the problems it causes.

LIKE, this link from NewBasementTapes! I feel terribly for those involved. Thankfully, I'm not one of them because I knwo Microsoft has a history of being problematic the first time around (IE 8, Win 2000, or Vista anyone?) and I actually never heard of this until now. I did check my add-ons in case and every add-on I know the reason it's there. I think I also am protected because I have this wicked Firefox add-on called No-Scripts which has stopped a LOT of the problems and issues I used to have with the PC, especially with a little thing called "DoubleClickAds" which liked to drop itself on my computer a lot. The Philosopher Musician first told me about it and someone at work agrees, as annoying as it can get sometimes (and it does) the protection is worth the annoyance.
