I'm a Star!

(My apologies if you are not enjoying my thinking posts, but technology has done a lot of that for me and I haven't had the chance to really explore any techy things.

Authors. Actors. Politicians. Celebrity. Star. Famous.

The line, to me, seems to be blurring any more between celebrity and the average person. Everyone can now be an author. You can be friends with a celebrity.

Last night (June 16), The Philosopher Musician and No-More-Heroes were participating in a video chat with Weird Al. Yes, Weird Al and the public. Many people were able to ask questions likes "Do you prefer Twilight or Harry Potter?" (Weird Al's answer I believe was "Well, I'm not a 14 year old girl, so Harry Potter" - a lot funnier though). While The Philosopher Musician and No-More-Heroes didn't have any of their questions answered they had fun.

The other day, I sent a reply Twitter to Laurie Halse Anderson in regards to a Twitter post. I "re-tweeted" a Neil Gaiman post. (Neil Gaiman has his own hash tag called #neilwebfail.)

I think Twitter and social networking sites began the "blurring of the lines." Everyone, I know wants to be famous (I should know, I have lofty goals myself), but any more, who is famous? What is "fame" if we can be friends with authors like they are our next door neighbors? For me, I still hold that high regard, but to be able to say "Oh, yeah, he's working on his next book. He tweeted that" makes me sound like "Oh, he's my neighbor and he told me." How long will it be before we are all celebrities, or better yet, we're not?

I honestly don't know, but it is something to think about. It is interesting how technology has been connecting some of us in our friendships. Privacy is somewhat disappearing (HA! EXCEPT MINE!) as we post things on the web, have conversations in public forums on the web, and continue to use the web in a variety of formats.

Either way, just some things to think about.

Although, authors tend to keep their privacy pretty well...
